FAQs

How is KUMA funded and kept independent?

KUMA Society is an independent, nonprofit research foundation that brings together experts from science, engineering, humanities, and the arts to tackle global challenges. We combine deep, collaborative inquiry with a steadfast commitment to ethics and methodological rigor, ensuring every discovery serves people and planet.

Who can partner with KUMA?

Universities, research centers, NGOs, government agencies, and mission-driven companies can all collaborate with us. Whether you want a pilot Integrity Audit, co-lead a Grand Challenge Hub, or co-author a case study, we tailor our approach to fit your goals and context.

How does the Ethical Index work?

Our Ethical Index evaluates each project on ethical soundness and methodological quality, using AI-powered analysis followed by expert review. You receive a clear report showing strengths, uncovering risks, and offering concrete steps to bolster both conscience and credibility.

What is KUMA Society?

KUMA operates as a nonprofit Society supported by competitive grants, philanthropic gifts, and revenue from our for-profit subsidiary (which returns the majority of profits to the Society). A diverse, tripartite Board and strict funding caps ensure that no single source can sway our mission or research outcomes.
